Every child deserves a little magic at Christmas. Through our Magical Christmas appeal, local people and businesses donate new gifts for children whose families are facing difficult circumstances.
You may have spotted one of our gift tags on a Christmas tree at a local business. Here’s what happens when you choose one.
Does my tag belong to a particular child?
No. Each tag represents a child we expect to support this Christmas, rather than a child who has already been referred to us. The age and gift suggestion are based on the requests we have received over the past few years. They help us collect the gifts we’re most likely to need before the busy Christmas period begins.
The suggestions are not wish lists from named children or families.
How do you choose who receives my gift?
Children are referred to Little Green Sock Project by professionals who know their circumstances. Once we receive a referral, we use the information provided to put together gifts for each child.
We consider their age, developmental stage and any needs identified in the referral, including special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Where we have information about a child’s interests, we use that too. Your gift will be matched to a child for whom it is suitable, which may not be the age shown on the tag you picked up.
The tags help us prepare, while the referrals help us make the gifts personal.
What if you receive more gifts than you need?
We use the gifts donated to meet the Christmas requests we receive. If any items are left over, we will share them with local community groups and charities supporting children and families, or store them for future use.
How can I take part?
Choose a tag from a participating Christmas tree and buy a new gift inspired by its suggestion. Please leave the gift unwrapped, place it in a large gift bag and return it with the tag attached to the collection point by the date shown.
